Michael Showalter kept acting long after he realized he didn't want to do it anymore — mostly because he needed to eat. Showalter got his start in college doing sketch comedy as a member of The State (formerly The New Group). Fast forward roughly two decades and Showalter has found himself right where he was always meant to be. But as I grew older, it was a combination of I wasn't getting cast in things, but I also wasn't really needing to get cast in things. Is there any one moment where you realized acting wasn't what you loved doing?

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, and it’s time to recognize the importance of maternal mental health. She previously served as Baltimore’s health commissioner and as chair of Behavioral Health Systems Baltimore, a regional nonprofit advancing mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Dr. Leana Wen: Mental health is an essential part of overall health. Those with preexisting mental health conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder have a much higher rate of experiencing mental health issues in the postpartum period. That said, it’s also very important to recognize that postpartum depression and other mental health diagnoses in pregnancy and postpartum can occur in people who have not had mental health conditions in the past.

Vehicles set to be shipped to Europe, at Taicang Port on Dec. 19, 2022, in Suzhou, China. The European Union will need to levy higher-than-expected tariffs of up to 55% on Chinese electric vehicles to curb their imports into the bloc, according to a new analysis by Rhodium Group. The findings, released Monday, come amid the EU's ongoing anti-subsidy investigation into EV imports from China. Rhodium Group, which expects the EU to impose tariffs in the 15% to 30% range on Chinese EVs, said those tariffs were unlikely to be enough to check competition from China. Chinese EV makers are locked in an intense price war in their home market.

“Just because the child … appears not to like many vegetables, doesn’t mean that vegetables shouldn’t be incorporated into the meal,” she added. Familiarize your kids with new foods by engaging their senses, said Natalie Mokari, a dietitian in Charlotte, North Carolina. Maybe your kids tried the brussels sprouts and weren’t fans, but they love salad — so they can choose to have that instead, Woolford suggested. And requiring an empty plate may teach kids to push past and start to ignore their hunger and fullness cues, Woolford said. And instead of always having a sugary sweet after dinner, you could offer your kids a random dessert like a popsicle in the middle of the day, she added.

One common type of good boss really sticks out from the rest, says workplace culture expert Tom Gimbel: the people person. Traditionally, good bosses have skills in areas like time management, constructive criticism and simply being able to help co-workers through day-to-day tasks. "The more authentic you are, the more people are going to connect with you and enjoy your company," Gimbel tells CNBC Make It. Here's how you, too, can become a "people person" at work, experts say. Sharing stories with the people around you shows that you want to build a relationship with them, and reminds them that they can "laugh a little bit and enjoy our work," Gimbel adds.

Simple snacks from the Mediterranean diet can help you cut back on processed food like potato chips, according to a dietician. The Mediterranean diet is all about focusing on moderation and nutrient-dense food instead of restriction, said registered dietitian and food writer Sheela Prakash, author of "Mediterranean Every Day: Simple, Inspired Recipes for Feel-Good Food." Snacking doesn't have to be off-limits on the Mediterranean diet, but reaching for whole foods with a healthy dose of protein and fiber can be a more energizing option than processed foods. AdvertisementPrakash shared the go-to Mediterranean diet snacks that provide all-day energy and are delicious enough to distract her husband from junk food cravings. While it takes a bit more effort up front, prepping healthy snacks at home can make it easier to stick to a healthy diet long-term than more extreme measures like cutting out snacks completely, according to Prakash.

In addition to the physical benefits of exercise, it’s also associated with a reduction in stress signals in the brain, which leads to a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, according to the study. For people without any history of depression, the benefit of exercise on cardiovascular disease reduction plateaued after about 300 minutes of moderate physical activity a week. How it worksExercise reduced stress signals and increased prefrontal cortical signals, Tawakol said. These proteins cause the walls of a person’s blood vessels to keep growing and thicken over time. As the blood vessels narrow, the heart is forced to work harder to pump blood to the lungs. Treatment with a combination of drugs that dilate, or relax, blood vessels can improve this outlook, but they are not a cure. Both groups were also taking the standard medications for the condition, which help relax blood vessels to improve blood flow. But Galiatsatos said that as promising as the drug looks, there are still many unknowns, including whether the drug will benefit all PAH patients equally.

Why readers are falling for romantasy stories
  + stars: | 2024-02-28 | by ( Scottie Andrew | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +13 min
But when it comes to the literary flavor that’s dominating readers’ attention in 2024, it’s clear: “Romantasy” reigns supreme. When romantasy protagonists (such as dragon-riders, fairies and fallen angels) aren’t busy saving their worlds, they’re falling deeply in love — often with someone they formerly considered an adversary (the “enemies-to-lovers” trope does big numbers with romantasy readers). Romantasy is breaking through among readers who previously didn’t browse the fantasy aisle — and delighting readers who’ve loved it for years. We talk to authors, experts, longtime fans and recent converts about why readers are flocking to romantasy stories, in which treacherous quests are punctuated by steamy trysts. It’s what bookseller and romantasy fan Gideon Ariel calls “Swiss Army lit” — a subgenre that all readers can enjoy, from longtime fantasy nerds to newcomers.

Women may see greater health benefits from exercising regularly than men do, according to a recent study. DON'T MISS: Exercise 2-4x more than the HHS recommends to achieve maximum benefit, says new studyResearchers also found that women were able to see greater health benefits with less exercise than their male counterparts. Men who engaged in about five hours of moderate to vigorous exercise each week lowered their chances of dying by 18% in comparison to men who didn't. The reason why women may have stronger benefits from regular exercise than men isn't clear, though it's possible it boils down to differences in anatomy, the study's researchers told CBS News. Exercising regularly is great for heart health in general"I think the big message is physical activity helps to reduce cardiovascular mortality, period," Garg tells CNBC Make It.

St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and the London Eye are all important landmarks in Britain’s capital. But after another staple of the city’s skyline, the BT Tower, was sold to an American group on Wednesday, plans are afoot to turn it into a hotel: one that rises 581 feet (177 meters) above the ground. “We will take our time to carefully develop proposals that respect the London landmark’s rich history and open the building for everyone to enjoy,” Tyler Morse, the chief executive of MCR Hotels, which bought the tower, said in a statement. The sale price was 275 million pounds ($346 million), the seller, BT Group, said in a statement. MCR owns several notable hotels, including the TWA Hotel, which occupies the Eero Saarinen-designed former TWA terminal at Kennedy Airport, and the High Line Hotel in New York City, which was formerly a dormitory for the General Theological Seminary.
